Digital treatment proven effective for insomnia and co-occurring health issues

Big Health, a leader in digital therapeutics for mental health conditions, has released two peer-reviewed studies showcasing the effectiveness of its digital insomnia treatment, Sleepio, in individuals with co-occurring insomnia and clinically significant anxiety, as well as in stroke survivors.

The studies, published in peer-reviewed journals, demonstrate that Sleepio not only effectively treats insomnia but also significantly reduces anxiety symptoms. Participants using Sleepio were two times more likely to no longer have clinically significant anxiety than those in the control group.

Furthermore, the studies show that Sleepio can have a positive impact on stroke recovery. After a stroke, up to 60% of patients experience sleep challenges, which are associated with worse post-stroke outcomes and increased rates of comorbidity, including anxiety and depression.

The INSPIRES study, involving 84 stroke survivors, found that Sleepio was effective at improving sleep for at least eight weeks post-intervention. Additionally, 71% of participants with insomnia at the baseline achieved remission after using Sleepio, compared to 30% in the control group.

These studies build upon previous research demonstrating the effectiveness of Sleepio in various populations, including cancer patients, cancer-induced menopause, and adults aged 65 and older. The results highlight the importance of treating sleep issues, as improved sleep can have far-reaching benefits for physical and mental health.

These findings contribute to the growing body of evidence supporting the benefits of digitally delivered cognitive behavioural therapies for mental health conditions.
