Heidi Launches Autonomous Clinical Agents to Automate 10M Weekly Tasks

Heidi has launched Heidi II, expanding its platform from ambient clinical documentation into an agentic AI system capable of completing administrative tasks surrounding patient visits. The company says its technology currently supports 2.8 million patient interactions each week across 110 languages and has identified more than 400 million follow-up tasks from clinical encounters since February 2024.

The new platform is designed to address what happens after an AI scribe generates a clinical note. Heidi estimates that ambient documentation surfaces approximately 10 million follow-up tasks every week, including referrals, screenings, laboratory tests and patient communications. Heidi II introduces autonomous agents that can act on these tasks across healthcare software systems, while keeping clinicians responsible for reviewing and approving clinical decisions and external communications.

Clinicians can instruct the agents using natural language to perform workflows such as preparing charts for an entire clinic schedule, reviewing referral correspondence and identifying patients overdue for screenings, laboratory tests or vaccinations. Multi-step workflows can also be saved as recurring "Routines," allowing practices to automatically perform tasks across patient populations on predefined schedules.

Heidi II also introduces persistent Memory that learns individual clinicians' preferences, documentation styles and formatting requirements based on their previous edits. The platform can work across multiple systems—including EHRs, practice management software, patient portals and email—to gather information and prepare actions without requiring clinicians to manually move between applications.

Clinical evidence is integrated through partnerships with publishers and research organizations including The New England Journal of Medicine, Wiley, Cochrane and BMJ Group. The platform can provide clinical decision support alongside references to peer-reviewed medical literature. Heidi says agentic actions remain subject to clinician oversight, with prescriptions, clinical decisions and outbound communications requiring approval before execution.

The platform is initially rolling out in English and French, while its agentic capabilities are currently being withheld from the UK and European Union as the company works through regional regulatory requirements.
