Imperial College London has launched its inaugural overseas research and innovation centre in Singapore, named Imperial Global-Singapore, with the aim of enhancing collaboration between the United Kingdom and Singapore.
The centre will facilitate close cooperation between Imperial's scientists and partners from universities, industries, governments, and the third sector in Singapore. The first research initiative at the centre is a significant S$20 million grant in collaboration with Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore), focusing on enhancing the security of medical devices and health data through a program named IN-CYPHER. Imperial's expertise will contribute to positioning Singapore as a global leader in health cybersecurity and artificial intelligence for healthcare.
Building on the established Imperial-NTU Singapore strategic partnership, the centre will play a pivotal role in accelerating scientific breakthroughs and technology transfer to benefit society and commercialisation in Southeast Asia. This expansion allows Imperial to engage in various activities in the region, including entrepreneurship programs, startup accelerators, student placements, and initiatives aimed at delivering technological advancements for societal benefit.
Imperial's staff and PhD students will collaborate with partners from Singapore's top universities and institutes, working in state-of-the-art laboratories. The centre's focus extends to addressing global challenges such as pandemic preparedness, climate change, the transition to net zero, and advancements in artificial intelligence.
