Healthcare insurer Blue Shield of California has announced a comprehensive cloud development plan in partnership with tech giant Microsoft. The objective is to provide its members with an integrated data hub known as the Experience Cube, which will be powered by Microsoft's Azure cloud platform.
The Experience Cube will leverage Azure's advanced analytics and storage capabilities to bring together near real-time data from members, providers, and payers. The primary goal is to create personalised services for members and generate valuable insights for healthcare providers.
Initially, the platform will function as an integrated digital health record, consolidating a member's essential medical information, including lab results, health conditions, emergency room visits, medications, and plan coverage.
Additionally, the collaboration between Blue Shield and Microsoft will involve migrating a Blue Shield software solution to Azure. This will enable the health insurer to analyse vast amounts of data more efficiently, allowing for improved responsiveness to industry demands. Moreover, the two companies are jointly exploring the potential of artificial intelligence and machine learning applications to meet the evolving needs of various healthcare stakeholders.
Lisa Davis, the executive vice president and chief information officer at Blue Shield of California, expressed their vision of creating high-tech, high-touch experiences for their members by breaking down long-standing data silos and harnessing the power of cloud-based data integration. By adopting Microsoft's cloud technology, Blue Shield aims to collaborate more effectively with healthcare providers, leading to greater access to care and services for their members. Timely data availability will facilitate shared decision-making between members and providers, ultimately enhancing health outcomes and reducing the overall cost of care.
