Onos Health has secured $17 million in Series A financing to expand its behavioral health clinical intelligence platform across commercial insurers, Medicare Advantage plans and Medicaid programs. The company develops technology designed to help health plans extract and evaluate clinical information contained in unstructured behavioral health records.
Mental health and substance use conditions affect more than 23% of U.S. adults annually and account for over $140 billion in direct medical spending. However, health insurers have traditionally relied heavily on claims and billing codes when assessing care. More than 70% of behavioral health quality signals, including treatment plans, symptom progression and therapy documentation, are contained in unstructured clinical notes that conventional payer systems cannot readily interpret.
Onos Health uses natural language processing to analyze therapy notes, intake assessments and utilization histories. Its software evaluates whether delivered care aligns with established clinical guidelines and automates elements of the chart-review process. The approach is intended to give payer medical directors greater visibility into care delivery, identify potential care gaps and assess provider performance without replacing clinical decision-making.
According to the company, deployments of the platform have produced a 75% increase in clinical review efficiency, a 35% improvement in adherence to evidence-based clinical standards and a reduction of more than 6% in behavioral health program costs within 12 months. The platform is currently deployed at Aetna and three of the six largest U.S. health plans.

The new funding will support broader deployment of Onos Health’s technology as the company seeks to automate administrative reviews and provide payers with more structured insight into behavioral health care pathways.
