Oracle Health has launched the U.S. commercial availability of its Clinical AI Agent for nurses, expanding its generative AI capabilities into inpatient nursing workflows. The technology is embedded directly within the Oracle Health Foundation EHR and is designed to reduce the substantial documentation and administrative burden nurses face during hospital shifts.
Unlike ambient AI tools primarily focused on generating physician notes, Oracle's nursing agent is designed around the structured documentation required in inpatient care. Nurses can use voice commands to document observations, vital signs, fluid measurements and clinical assessments, with the AI converting spoken information into discrete fields within the EHR. This allows nurses to capture information closer to the bedside rather than completing extensive documentation later in their shifts.
The platform can also generate concise nursing summaries by synthesizing information from physician notes, medications, laboratory results, orders and other parts of the patient record. These summaries are intended to support shift handoffs and help nurses quickly understand changes in a patient's condition without manually searching through multiple sections of the chart.
Voice-powered search and navigation provide another layer of automation. Nurses can ask the system to retrieve specific clinical information, including diagnostic results, surgical history or active care plans, while remaining focused on the patient. Oracle aims to reduce both the time spent navigating the EHR and the amount of post-shift documentation required.
The nursing capabilities build on Oracle Health's existing Clinical AI Agent for physicians, which the company says has saved more than 400,000 documentation hours across U.S. health systems. BayCare Health System is among the early organizations evaluating the nursing technology in inpatient settings, with a focus on reducing documentation workloads and overtime associated with completing charts after shifts.
