Sirona Medical Raises $40M to Expand Cloud-Based Radiology and Cortex AI Platform

Sirona Medical has raised $40 million in Series D funding to expand its cloud-native radiology platform and accelerate the commercialization of its Cortex AI technology. The round was led by Avidity Partners, with participation from 8VC, GreatPoint Ventures, KLT Holdings and existing investors, bringing the company's total funding to approximately $150 million. Sirona says the investment provides sufficient capital to execute its long-term operating plan and move toward positive cash flow.

The company's flagship platform, RadOS, is designed as a unified radiology operating system that combines picture archiving and communication systems (PACS), diagnostic imaging, structured reporting, worklist management and AI-powered workflow automation. Unlike traditional radiology environments that rely on multiple disconnected applications, RadOS integrates these capabilities into a single cloud-based infrastructure, allowing radiologists to manage imaging workflows more efficiently.

Sirona reports significant commercial growth, with revenue increasing 2.5 times year over year and contracted annual recurring revenue growing 2.7 times. The platform now manages more than 12 million contracted primary imaging examinations annually across enterprise healthcare organizations and radiology practices. PACS archive utilization has also increased substantially, while diagnostic report volumes have doubled over the past year.

A major focus of the new investment is Cortex, Sirona's agentic AI orchestration layer. The technology is designed to coordinate diagnostic AI models, generate context-aware preliminary interpretations and automate report drafting directly within the radiologist's workflow. By embedding these capabilities into RadOS, Sirona aims to move beyond isolated AI imaging tools toward a more integrated clinical assistant that supports radiologists throughout the diagnostic process.

The company also plans to expand collaboration across its cloud-based radiology network, allowing practices and health systems to share workloads, access subspecialty expertise and distribute imaging studies more efficiently. New collaboration capabilities are expected in 2027, alongside expanded implementation and technical support operations in the U.S.

Sirona is also preparing an international expansion through Sirona Global, targeting markets including the UK, European Union, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. The initiative will extend its commercial and regulatory operations beyond the U.S. as demand grows for cloud-based imaging infrastructure and AI-enabled radiology workflows.
