TidalSense has raised $19 million to accelerate the expansion of its AI-powered respiratory diagnostics platform across Europe and support its planned entry into the U.S. market. The funding round included new investor Cross-Border Impact Ventures alongside existing backers BGF, Airstream Capital and Foresight Group, bringing the Cambridge-based company's total funding to $40 million, including previous grant support from UK healthcare and research organizations.
The company will use the new capital to expand commercial operations in the UK, Ireland and Europe, prepare for U.S. commercialization and broaden its diagnostic platform beyond chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) to include additional respiratory conditions such as asthma. TidalSense also plans to grow its commercial and operational teams as demand for faster, more accessible respiratory diagnostics increases.
TidalSense's flagship platform, N-Tidal Diagnose, is designed to diagnose COPD without relying on traditional spirometry, which often requires specialist equipment and trained personnel. Instead, patients breathe normally into a handheld device for approximately 75 seconds while the system captures carbon dioxide waveforms, known as capnograms. Artificial intelligence then analyzes these breathing patterns for signs of COPD, producing results in under five minutes. According to the company, healthcare professionals can learn to operate the device in around 10 minutes, allowing significantly more patients to be tested compared with conventional spirometry.
The company's AI models have been trained using more than 2.5 million patient breaths, and TidalSense reports that its first post-market validation study demonstrated diagnostic accuracy exceeding 90% across key performance measures. The platform received a Class IIa CE mark under the European Union Medical Device Regulation earlier this year and has already been introduced across multiple National Health Service sites in England, Wales and Scotland. With the latest investment, TidalSense aims to expand access to faster, AI-enabled respiratory diagnostics while addressing barriers to COPD detection in both primary care and underserved communities.
