Transcarent has launched a bundled payment model for CAR T-cell and bispecific T-cell engager (BiTE) therapies delivered through community oncology providers. The program is designed to make advanced cancer treatments more accessible outside major academic medical centers while giving self-insured employers greater predictability over some of the most expensive episodes of cancer care.
CAR T and BiTE therapies have transformed treatment for certain cancers but can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars and typically require highly specialized clinical infrastructure. Access has historically been concentrated at large academic centers, meaning patients may need to travel significant distances or temporarily relocate for treatment. Transcarent's model aims to shift appropriate care into accredited regional and community oncology settings closer to patients' homes and existing support networks.
The program replaces traditional fee-for-service billing with a prospective bundled rate covering treatment episodes, helping employers better anticipate costs associated with these high-cost therapies. According to Transcarent, the model could generate savings of up to $150,000 per case. The approach comes as cancer remains the leading healthcare cost driver for employers, with 70% identifying it as their top cost concern, according to the Business Group on Health.
Transcarent is partnering with community oncology networks including Vantris Oncology to provide advanced infusions, cell therapies and associated monitoring. Patients also receive support from dedicated oncology nurse navigators who coordinate treatment planning, clinical protocols and post-treatment recovery, helping manage the complexity associated with these therapies across different care settings.
The offering expands Transcarent's broader Cancer Care Centers of Excellence model and connects with its WayFinding platform, which includes expert second opinions, virtual primary care and pharmacy support. By combining community-based treatment with bundled pricing and navigation, Transcarent aims to make advanced cancer therapies more accessible while giving employers greater control over rapidly rising oncology spending.
