Uber Health, Uber’s healthcare arm, has announced that it has launched a same-day prescription delivery service for users. Uber Health initially launched in 2018, with a platform used by healthcare professionals to book transport for patients. Now, users including health providers and health plans can manage prescription delivery to patients within their service areas using the same platform.
Uber began offering prescription drug delivery in 2020, through a deal with digital delivery marketplace NimbleRx, in line with the surge for demand on home medication delivery during the COVID-19 pandemic. To expand this service, Uber Health is now partnering with ScriptDrop,
a platform that connects patients and pharmacies to couriers. ScriptDrop integrates with pharmacy software systems to provide options for same-day shipping of medications, as well as providing a customer-facing portal for deliveries. Through the deal, Uber Health will become the default option for deliveries for select pharmacies, with ScriptDrop paying Uber for each delivery.
ScriptDrop hasn’t disclosed the exact number of U.S pharmacies using its platform, but clients include pharmacies such as Albertsons, Kmart and Safeway. The service is now available in 37 states including Florida, California, New York, and Texas, with plans to expand the offering in the near future.
The startup is far from the only company offering prescription delivery services, most major pharmacies including CVS Health and Walgreens have built out their medication delivery services, competing with companies such as Amazon that have national distribution capabilities.
