Ypsomed and smartpatient Partner to Integrate Connected Injection Devices with Digital Patient Support

Ypsomed and smartpatient, a subsidiary of Redcare Pharmacy, have announced a collaboration to integrate Ypsomed’s SmartPilot connected injection technology with smartpatient’s MyTherapy digital patient engagement platform. The partnership aims to link drug administration data with ongoing patient support, addressing different stages of treatment management for individuals living with chronic conditions.

Ypsomed’s SmartPilot technology transforms its YpsoMate autoinjector into a connected drug delivery system capable of digitally capturing injection-related information. Integrating this functionality with MyTherapy will allow pharmaceutical companies to combine injection data with medication reminders, therapy-specific education, adherence monitoring and personalised patient interventions.

The collaboration is intended to help pharmaceutical manufacturers incorporate connected self-injection capabilities into existing digital patient support programmes without developing separate digital ecosystems for individual therapies. By connecting injection-related information with broader treatment management, the companies aim to support patients throughout their treatment journeys rather than focusing exclusively on medication administration.

“Connected self-injection provides valuable insights into how patients interact with their treatment. With SmartPilot, we can extend digital connectivity beyond the injection itself. Together with smartpatient, we are creating a scalable solution that enables pharmaceutical companies to support patients throughout their treatment journey,” said Florian Kühni, Head of Product Area Digital Health at Ypsomed.

The partnership combines Ypsomed’s expertise in developing and manufacturing self-injection systems with smartpatient’s experience delivering digital patient engagement solutions across therapeutic areas and international markets.

“Our ambition is to make connected therapies part of a broader patient experience rather than another isolated digital solution. Ypsomed brings deep expertise at the point of drug administration, while MyTherapy provides the digital layer for continuous patient engagement. Our partnership offers pharmaceutical partners a scalable way to connect the two worlds,” said Sebastian Seibold, Head of Partnerships & Growth at smartpatient.

The companies intend to establish a reusable integration framework adaptable to different pharmaceutical products and patient populations. This approach could enable connected injection devices, companion applications and patient support programmes to operate within a coordinated digital environment.

The first implementation is currently under development, with additional details expected as the collaboration progresses.
