Aurenar Raises $5.7M to Advance V-Link Neuromodulation Platform for Critical Care

Aurenar, a St. Louis-based medical technology company, has secured $5.7 million in an oversubscribed seed financing round co-led by the Go Red for Women Venture Fund™, part of American Heart Association Ventures™, and Solas BioVentures. Additional participation came from BJC Health and Kaleida Capital. The financing will support the continued development of the company’s V-Link™ platform, a non-invasive transauricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS) system designed to reduce life-threatening inflammatory responses in intensive care patients.

The proceeds from the round will be directed towards completing final device engineering, verification and validation (V&V) testing, and preparing regulatory submissions for the platform’s planned FDA pivotal trials.

V-Link delivers targeted electrical stimulation to the auricular branch of the vagus nerve through a wireless, single-use ear-worn device. By activating the body’s cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway without requiring surgical implantation, the platform is intended to integrate into existing neuro-intensive care workflows while avoiding the complexity associated with implantable neuromodulation technologies.

Clinical research conducted at Washington University in St. Louis has demonstrated encouraging results for the technology. Studies led by Dr. Eric Leuthardt and Dr. Anna Huguenard found that transauricular vagus nerve stimulation reduced moderate-to-severe cerebral vasospasm by more than 40%, suppressed key pro-inflammatory cytokines including TNF-α and IL-6 in both blood plasma and cerebrospinal fluid, improved functional recovery, and contributed to a 20% reduction in 30-day modifiable hospitalisation costs.

The platform has been designed with a simple wireless ear-clip form factor, enabling neuro-ICU physicians and nursing staff to initiate treatment without specialised surgical procedures or additional technical training.

Commenting on the company’s next stage of development, Dr. Eric Leuthardt, Founder and CEO of Aurenar, said, “In the intensive care unit, it’s not just the diagnosis that brings you in, it’s all of the things that happen afterwards that define a patient’s outcome. With the support of our investor group, every dollar of this round is committed to milestones that help us improve outcomes for patients in the most critical moments of their care.”

As Aurenar begins V&V testing and prepares for FDA pivotal trials, the company is advancing its bioelectric therapeutic approach with the objective of bringing a non-invasive treatment option into critical care settings.
