FDA Clears Zeta’s Robotic Stereotactic TMS System

Zeta Surgical has received FDA 510(k) clearance for its Zeta TMS robotic system, authorizing the platform as a Class II stereotactic instrument for transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). The clearance expands the company's portfolio of image-guided neuromodulation technologies and supports the use of robotic assistance to improve the precision of TMS therapy. TMS is a noninvasive treatment most commonly used for patients with treatment-resistant depression, while also being explored for conditions including obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder and substance use disorders.

The Zeta TMS system uses real-time image guidance and robotic positioning to maintain highly accurate placement of the stimulation coil throughout treatment sessions. The platform automatically compensates for patient movement, helping ensure that stimulation remains targeted without requiring repeated manual adjustments by clinicians. According to the company, the system can be deployed in less than a minute and is designed for use in a wide range of clinical settings. The technology was validated through accuracy and usability studies conducted with researchers at Harvard Medical School and the University of Cambridge.

The clearance follows another recent FDA authorization for Zeta Surgical's navigation platform and related navigated instruments, reflecting the company's broader strategy of bringing image-guided robotics into neurological care. By combining robotic positioning with stereotactic navigation, the platform aims to improve treatment consistency, simplify clinical workflows and expand access to advanced brain stimulation therapies. As interest in precision neuromodulation continues to grow, technologies that automate targeting and reduce operator variability are becoming an increasingly important area of innovation.
